Black Rock Trial Lawyers File Lawsuit Alleging Business Partner Betrayal and Multi-Year Profit Deprivation in Florida Auto Body Business

Tampa, FL – April 16, 2026 – Black Rock Trial Lawyers has filed a lawsuit on behalf of Joel Palau in the Circuit Court for Pinellas County, Florida, alleging that his longtime business partner, Justin Torres, wrongfully cut him out of a successful auto body business after years of shared investment, labor, and trust.

According to the complaint, Mr. Palau and Mr. Torres operated under a longstanding 50/50 partnership agreement—built on years of prior business dealings—when they jointly acquired Wrecktified Paint & Collision in Clearwater, Florida in 2019. Mr. Palau contributed capital, including $20,000 toward the acquisition, and played a critical operational role in building the business into a profitable enterprise.

The lawsuit alleges that after years of sharing profits and expanding operations across multiple locations, Mr. Torres abruptly excluded Mr. Palau from the Clearwater business in late 2023 without compensation, despite the company’s continued success.

“Mr. Palau devoted years of his life, his labor, and his financial resources to building this business,” said counsel for the plaintiff. “This case is about holding a business partner accountable for violating trust, breaching fiduciary duties, and attempting to walk away with the entirety of a jointly built company.”

The complaint brings multiple claims, including breach of partnership agreement, breach of fiduciary duty, unjust enrichment, and conversion. It further seeks damages for lost profits, recognition of Mr. Palau’s ownership interest, and equitable relief including a constructive trust and full accounting of the business’s finances.

Mr. Palau contends that he was left with a financially struggling operation while Mr. Torres retained control of the more established and profitable Clearwater location—despite their agreement to share ownership equally.

The lawsuit seeks compensatory and punitive damages, as well as court orders to restore Mr. Palau’s ownership rights or require a fair buyout of his interest.
